RC vs. Fiber
- Resin coated paper is less expensive and faster to produce.
- Fiber papers have richer tones and with archival processing they have a much longer life span.
We offer a variety of Ilford RC and fiber papers.
RC Papers
You can choose RC paper with either a glossy or pearl surface.
Fiber Papers
- Multigrade Glossy with a neutral base.
- Warmtone semi-matte has a creamy off white base with rich warm blacks. Excellent for sepia toning to produce an old fashioned brown tone.
Toning
Toning is a separate process that takes place after the image is printed. Toning is available only on fiber paper.
- Selenium Toning – selenium toning has little effect on the tonality of the print it is primarily used to extend the life span of the print.
- Sepia Toning – sepia toning creates warm brown tones similar to photographs from the 1800’s.

Full Frame or Fill Frame
Because the ratio of the negative to the paper size varies depending on the film format and the size of the paper it will be printed on, it is not always possible to print the full image on the negative and still have even borders.
- Full frame – if you want the entire image printed select full frame but be aware that the borders may not be even all the way around.
- Fill frame – If you want even borders select fill frame and the image will be cropped to ensure even borders.
